Hi, I have the ussual frontier 355 software that runs the FE-FRONTEND conputer on xp, and the scaner on win nt i think. Now my question is, What computer is needed to run the new windows 7 software for bouth the scaner and the frontend, where can i but this software (with install instructions) and whats the price of it?

Yes, it is possible. But, you should install on SP FE software. Normally, you should have a1 v1.7 or 1.8 on SP. Then you should make 2 backup disks. Make reinstallation of MCU on SP and then reinstallation S1 on SP with 2 disks. Installation of DIC is the same.
I also have a 340, and I am interested in upgrading to FE. I currenlty are using C4/5 on windows 2003 server. Can this FE software run side by side with c4/5 on the same PC? Does the software inside the Printer itself, need to changed?
If my understanding is correct, I can install FE software onto an XPpro PC and it should operate the Frontier 340 as a replacement for the C4/5. I hear that the colour correction options on FE are far superior than c4/5?
If you have SP3000 only ( stand alone scanner without minilab ) you do not need all FE software modules you mentioned. Some modules are for printer and other for FMPC only. So if you have not printer and FMPC then do not need their software too.
You can make hard disc image if remove hard disc and connect to some other computer where installed some disc cloning software. For example I use Acronis true image on my laptop. To connect hard disc use IDE/SATA - USB converter. Hard disc power connected from external power supply. If do not want remove hard disc then can boot computer from DOS and load some disc cloning software. Can make image file to CD or other hard disc.

Here's the really cool part: If you shoot raw files, you can change your mind about what Film Simulation you want to use after the fact! The reason i did not post the question immediately is i am a little bit worried people will jump in with absolutely no knowledge of the frontier minilabs, suggesting all kinds of things irrelevant or not applicable. No offence but it happens in forums like these.
The density problem is perhaps more contrast rellated and is inherent to old frontier software versions. It can be solved if you specifically ask to do so and lab-operator has knowledge on the subject.
I would not compare a frontier scanning-unit to a nikon ls-4000. Totally different league ;-). Looking at dslr's i would not necessarily declair them superior to film, only different, and faster. Image characteristics are totally different. (An Dig).

Would be good to have additional software too. For example - only to install MS16 you can work with 6 frames at the same time. Without it you have print frame by frame only. Instead it can use FrontMan for film scanning. It is that all Fuji 7xxx are made by Noritsu and just painted green - white. All minilab hardware the same. E controller has many additional software too. Can write, if need it. If I where you I'd choose Noritsu software. Also have additional software. Maybe try to share on Windows installed printer and use it on MAC ( as network printer ). Anyway I didn't try do it myself. We want one operator to operate (sending print orders) to multiple 370 machines. You should ask support them. When I sell something always explain how to install, guide buyer or sometimes help to install using Teamviewer. MS01 is enough to connect few minilabs. All other software optional. I'd recommend add MS16 at least ( 6 frame view ). What other software do can read on my post above.
