This switch allows users to select the head configuration of the unit. Because tape machines use multiple heads and a loop of tape, the actual delay offsets are static. This fact, combined with various other non-linearities, makes tape delays inspiring.
All of the electronics and tape behavior have been closely matched: from tape hiss, wear and wow and flutter to AC line hum (selectable among US and UE voltage); with these controls the Tape Echo can be used as a standard analog delay, when set accordingly, or pushed to the extremes, where the use of the Wow and Flutter, preamp gain and tape wear turn it into a wild effects generator.
A higher fidelity tape echo similar to that rigged up with reel-to-reel decks in a studio. It's designed to give you the ability to precisely sculpt sound with more control over mod rate/mod depth/EQ. The MOD Rate/Depth control the rate and depth of a random wow & flutter modulator. These rates are not a function of the delay setting, as they are in the Tape mode. Age controls asperity noise. No splicing artifacts in the HiFi mode.
A delay designed to create the effect of a broken tape, such that any signal added to it can disappear into a haze of noise and fuzz. The mod rate, mod depth and age controls allow you to dial in the amount of artifacts, and the Era control allows you to switch between 3 different levels of brightness, from murky old tapes to a more modern full-frequency sound. Perfect for emulating tape echoes on the verge of breaking down, fuzzy reverbs that add a halo of noise to your sound, swarms of bees, subtle wobbles to the mix bus, and adding a patina of dusty age to any sound source.
Age controls the noise level, as well as the depth of the tape splice artifacts. It gives you the ability to get clean and shiny, warped and dusty, or anywhere in between. Want a clean delay? Turn Age down to 0%. Want some cruft in there? Crank up that Age knob.

PSP Stomp Delay. It's fantastic. I spent a full 90 minutes running a recording of noisy children through it last night. I just got pulled in playing with all of the controls while checking out the presets. Vintage tape echo effects are a large part of my sound. This plug can go way beyond that. I found everything from flanging, subtle doubling, and conventional delays, to all out sonic chaos! This is a "must have" effect for my tool kit.

Such a killer delay/reverb for adding depth AND sonic character. It's really fun to play with, and when driven, sounds remarkably close to a proper tape delay, without the maintenance. Only giving 4 stars as you can't manually adjust the delay time beyond fixed parameters, such as 1/4 or 1/8, or variations of around 100 milliseconds on fixed times from the original unit. I think sometimes UAD shoot themselves in the foot by not adding extra features which everyone would have gladly had on the original hardware and are easy as pie to add to the plugin. But for fixed times and even as a stand alone reverb, this is a fantastic plugin, hands down. 2ff7e9595c
